Last day of 2018 Scholarship Interviews

Tuesday 30th October 2018

Today was our final day of scholarship interviews for the 2018 selection process.

We have interviewed over 20 applicants for the first stage of this year's scholarship selection process and the quality of applicants has been nothing short of impressive. The first interview is fairly informative but all applicants prepared thoroughly and we are now looking forward to the next round.

The second stage of the selection process is a 15 minute presentation on a topic of the applicants choosing. The presentation stage always proves to be immensely interesting as the panel analyse various skills and qulaities that are shown at this stage ranging from the overall quality of the presentation provided to the time-keeping of the applicant. We have seen presentations on topics including brick laying and drones amongst so many others. We are always excited to see what the applicants come up with at this stage.

2018 Scholarship Fund Doubled

Thursday 25th October 2018

Helicentre Aviation Academy has allocated a further £75,000 in part-funded scholarship awards to its already generous 2018 Professional Helicopter Pilot Scholarship Programme. In the last five years the company has invested over £500,000 into training scholarships which have been awarded to pilots training at the Academy in a effort to meet the company’s ongoing requirement for Flight Instructors and Line Pilots.

The awards have provided stand-out individuals with full or part-funding to obtain a professional licence with immediate work opportunities and the chance to gain valuable experience. For many the Scholarship Programme has provided life-changing career opportunities leading to quick progression into industry roles such as Utility and HEMS (Helicopter Emergency Medical Service).

At the end of last year’s selection process, Janine Lythe from Northampton was awarded the prestigious fully-funded Commercial Pilot Scholarship which paid for around 120 flying hours in the Cabri G2, including the CPL course. This was the first year the company also awarded part-funded Scholarships to applicants who demonstrated extreme talent and motivation, however this year even more money is being invested.

With the 2018 selection process already underway, the 25 applicants who are all newly qualified private pilots, will have a chance to secure a share of £75,000 in addition to competing for a fully-funded CPL(H) Scholarship worth up to £55,000, and a Flight Instructor Scholarship worth £20,000. The £75,000 of part-funded awards will be allocated as one scholarship of £10,000, two scholarships of £7,500 each, and ten scholarships of £5,000 each.

Managing Director and Head of Training, Captain Sarah Bowen said “It has been so rewarding to see previous Scholarship winners go from trainee pilot to industry professional in such a short space of time. The quality of the applicants we have interviewed so far this year has been exceptionally high and with the additional scholarships being offered, we can reward more pilots with much-needed funding which will help them get into employment more quickly.”

Applicants who wish to be considered for the Helicentre Aviation 2019 Professional Helicopter Pilot Scholarship Programme must submit their application form by 31st December 2018. No flying experience is necessary at the time of application but the PPL(H) course must be completed at Helicentre Aviation Academy by 30th September 2019 to qualify for selection. Our 2018 Scholarship Interviews Are Underway!

Monday 15th October 2018

We have begun interviewing our 2018 CPL(H) Scholarship applicants at our Leicester facilities!

The quality of candidates coming through our selection process is once again extremely high. All of our applicants have compelted their PPL(H) flight training here at Helicentre Avaition and we have gotten to know every signle one of them during that time.

The first stage is an interview where our applicants sit down with the panel and their application form and begin with a fairly informal discussion. This gives us a chance to learn even more about each applicant and their intentions as they move into this exciting industry.

Secondly, we have a presentation stage which involves the applicants producing a 15 minute presentation on a topic of their choice and then presenting to our panel. We have seen topics ranging form how to play the drums, to complex science.

Finally, we hold a selection day after we've narrowed down the applicants to a final group. This day includes a range of activies, team-building and leadership exercies, and a lot more. It is both fulfilling and exhausting as you are challenged throughout the day.

We look forward to meeting the rest of our applicants and watching them go through our scholarship selection process. Good luck to everyone!

Scholarship Application Deadline Extension

Thursday 20th September 2018

The UK has recently been suffering from some poor weather which has caused delays to flight training for some students.

As a result, Helicentre Avaition has decided to extend the deadline for scholarship applicants to complete their training by two weeks. The new deadline is Monday the 15th of October 2018.

Interviews for the scholarship will begin on the 16th of October and this will remain unchanged with this deadline extension.

We are very excited to begin the scholarship selection process with all of our applicants and we look forward to learning more about our students over the coming months.
