Morgan Whiting

2013 FI(H) Scholarship Winner

Morgan Whiting from Loughborough started training to be a helicopter pilot in 2009. He worked in the chemistry industry and wanted a change of career. Morgan applied for the flight instructor scholarship after completing his CPL(H) in 2012 and was one of only three applicants to apply. Following his presentation to the board he was chosen as the first FI(H) scholarship winner.

Winners Story

What is Morgan doing in 2017?

Morgan has been very busy over the past year with instruction and commercial operations to keep him on his toes.

He has built considerable hours and experience teaching PPL(H) students, including some of our most recent scholarship winners, which has helped him progress further in his flying career. Morgan is now approved to instruct for the commercial pilot licence and recently completed two more courses with more lined up for later this year.

As well as the instruction, Morgan has been working in commercial operations including pleasure flying, charter, and pipeline survey. Recently, Morgan was pleasure flying which is something he has done for some time now at Helicentre with private charter also forming part of his weekly routine, particularly across the summer and to special events such as Silverstone.

Morgan has also been flying more and more utility operations. He is a reserve pilot for our National Grid contract and flies regularly on routine pipeline surveys that Helicentre operates for a number of blue chip clients. The Cabri G2 aerial work that we do takes Morgan and an observer across parts of the UK patrolling the lines to make sure there is no tampering or unexpected sights on the route. Morgan also flies the R44 in this capacity when it is required. Many of his flights will be alongside other scholarship winners including Mike Circus and now Jop Dingemans who has recently started gaining valuable experience in the utility role.

We are so happy to see Morgan progressing in his flying career and look forward to what's next for him!

Morgan Excelling As A Flight Instructor!

Morgan has gained a total of 1,200 hours. He has flown the R22, R44, Cabri G2 and Bell 206. Morgan is making a huge difference to our team here at Helicentre Aviation Academy. Morgan instructs PPL(H) students, examines type ratings, takes prospective students for trial lessons, does Commercial Charter work and Pleasure Flying as well. Morgan has been an integral part of our team since first joining us and he initially started with a Flight Discovery Day!

Morgan Gets His FI(H) Certificate Unrestricted!

When you qualify as a helicopter flight instructor, for the first 100 hours of instruction you are what's known as a restricted flight instructor, which means you must operate under the guidance of another fully qualified and unrestrited flight instructor. To get the restriction lifted you also need to supervise 25 solo student flight exercieses. Morgan has been building his instructional hours very quickly and of this week Morgan has had his flight instructor restriction lifted by the CAA so can now instruct unsupervised. Well done Morgan! Another milestone!

Morgan Joins our Team of Helicopter Flight Instructors

Congratulations to Morgan who passed his flight test less than a week ago and has already started instructing PPL(H) students on the company’s Cabri G2, Robinson R22 and Robinson R44 helicopters. The scholarship, which was funded entirely by Helicentre Aviation has made it possible for Morgan to fast-track his career and walk straight into an instructing position. “I’m absolutely thrilled to have been given this opportunity, and to be able to do the course on the Cabri G2 was a bonus,” said Morgan. “It’s amazing to have started working as an instructor so quickly after getting my FI(H) certificate issued. Thank you Helicentre for the wonderful opportunity!"

Morgan Passes Flight Instructor Test on the Cabri G2!

Just two months after the award of Helicentre Aviation’s flight instructor scholarship, Captain Morgan Whiting has become the UK’s first flight instructor to complete his FI course on the Cabri G2. Well done Morgan! Now get yourself down to the CAA at Gatwick so you can get your certificate issued and start instructing!!

Morgan Starts Training to Be a Flight Instructor!

After being awarded the scholarship last month, Morgan is about to start his flight instructor course and aims to have his FI(H) certificate issues by late August so he can begin working as a helicopter flight instructor. Morgan is rated on the Cabri G2, Robinson R22 and Robinson R44, and because he has more than 15 hours on each type he will be able to instruct on all three once his certificate is issued! Good luck with your course Morgan!
